tagged

I've been tagged by Michelle so here are 8 random things about me but first...

1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/stories about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I was the Yamhill County Junior (.22) Light Rifle champ in 1974. I like to target shoot but don’t much any more. The one and only time I tried Steve’s hunting rifle I ended up with 6 stitches above my right eye. Despite that, I still blew the pumpkin off the cross fence!
2. I am definitely not a cat person. Cats are fine if they are in the barn catching mice like they are supposed to. Otherwise, dogs are where it’s at because they know how to listen. But, not just any dog. German Shepards need to go back to Germany and if it it's under 2 feet tall or doesn’t have hair, it isn’t a dog.
This is a real dog.
3. When I was little, for a while I thought there were alligators under my bed at night so would not hang my feet out of the covers no matter how hot it was upstairs in our old house. There was also a black panther lurking in the bushes between the house and barn at night so taking the peeling bucket out to the pasture after dinner was a terrifying experience for a while.
4. I am claustrophobic. I blame it entirely on my brother and sister who held me under the covers until I freaked out one night. I don’t know if that’s what caused it but it’s one of the few things I can still hold over their heads.
5. When I was in junior high, I had a profound spiritual experience in which I knew God was real. Since then, I’ve been trying to figure out who he is, what he’s about and what he wants with me. Every chapter of my life has revealed another facet of his character and I am more intrigued now than ever. My best and dearest friends are the ones who have shared this faith walk with me.
6. I love storms. I remember more than once standing outside with my dad watching lightning move across the valley. I love watching the light change as a storm approaches and that feeling you get that something big is about to happen. I love feeling the pounding rain and battering winds from inside a secure house and the stillness when it’s all over. I especially loved the storms we witnessed in Alberta, Canada with my Uncle Bill.
7. My heroes include Corrie Ten Boom and Mother Teresa. That someone has published Mother Teresa’s personal letters, in which she expresses doubt and despair, against her wishes was poor form yet, I believe that having her human element revealed is what will keep the saint from becoming an idol and serve to remind us of the person who pointed us toward Jesus and away from herself.
8. I love country music but not if it’s too twangy. Alan Jackson’s “When the World Stopped Turning” still makes me cry, I know all the words to Toby Keith’s “Beer for My Horses,” and Rascal Flatts’ “Me and My Gang” is currently my favorite CD, although the CD changer has these other favorites playing in it too: Enya, Simon & Garfunkel’s "Greatest Hits," Kenny Loggins’ "Pooh Corner," and Josh Groban’s "Awake." Too much of any one thing becomes tedious.

Tagged by me: My beautiful nieces Christy and Lindley, and my gifted friend Denise whose blog has sat dormant long enough.
