heaven's gain

There is heartbreaking news tonight. Tom Fox, Quaker Christian Peacemaker kidnapped in November, has been killed. I signed the petition for his release months ago, asking his kidnappers to lead us toward peace. They did not hear.

May the prayers of the saints continue to go up for Tom's family, his companions, his captors. Who will lead us toward peace now?

  • This is exactly why I say blogland is so weird. Someone you’ve never met, and probably would never ever meet in a million years, throws out a comment and you can’t tell if they’re being serious, rhetorical, sarcastic, irreverent, angry or what. Still Scott, I think you did mean to ask or you wouldn’t have taken the time to fill in the word verification and publish it.

Yes, Jesus can lead us toward peace but doesn’t he generally do it through willing and listening hearts here on earth? I just want to know who is *listening* in the Middle East. I want to know if Tom Fox’s life and death made a difference to the one who pulled the trigger. And, who will be the first to “stand down” from the tangled up mess we’re in? I guess I had been hoping that Tom’s captors would show mercy and it would be the beginning of something good. Naive maybe, but how else does peace begin?
